The award was based off of the Pied Puper Prospect Satisfaction Index, which essentially uses secret shoppers to rank their retail experience. Mercedes-Benz just recently opened a flagship dealership "lab" in Manhattan. The reason for this is to test some of MBUSA’s new retail innovations ,including iPad integration to name one of the many.
This year’s Pied Piper study consisted of 3,524 paid anonymous secret shoppers ,that stopped into dealerships nationwide, and information suggests overall industry performance dropped from last year.
The people behind the PPP Satisfaction Index believe that the reason for the skid this year is due to sales-people not mentioning such things as scheduled maintenance programs and costs that coincide with the maintenance. On top of that, the secret shoppers also took away that sales-people are also less likely to address specific features and benefits that would be a plus to each shopper. What this year’s secret shoppers found from the sales-people was that they were more likely to offer information why consumers should buy now and also, what was holding buyers back from purchasing a vehicle.
Not surprisingly Mercedes-Benz and other luxury brands fared much better than other brands. The reason for this is believed to be due to both higher profitability as well as larger commissions, per sale, for sales-people working at luxury dealers.
